If you are planning a move during the holiday season, it is important that your holiday decorations are packed and cared for properly throughout the entire move. Once you get settled at your destination, you and your family will want to put up your holiday decorations to bring some cheer into your new home! Check out our tips on how to move your most precious holiday decorations below.

Organize and Pack Lights

When packing your lights, be sure to untangle each strand, and wrap them around a piece of cardboard. Then, wrap the lights again with bubble wrap or packing paper to prevent the bulbs from breaking. You can even use bread ties or zip ties to keep the strands from coming unraveled. Pack your lights in a waterproof container or tote to prevent water damage and properly label them, so they are easy to find.

Pack your Giftwrap in Plastic Bags

It is important to keep giftwrap dry and intact throughout your entire move, so you can wrap all your gifts once you arrive at your new home! If you do not have a giftwrap storage bag like the one you can purchase here, put all your giftwrap in plastic trash bags and place them in a waterproof container or tote to protect the paper from water damage, wrinkling, and ripping.

Get a Tree Storage Bag

If you have an artificial Christmas tree, it is important to pack it in a tree storage bag or box. These items will help protect your tree from moisture, dust, and getting accidentally crushed during the move. Most tree storage bags are lightweight, waterproof, tearproof, hold up to a 9 ft tree, and inexpensive. You can purchase a tree storage bag here.

Pack Ornaments in Egg Cartons

A great trick of the trade to prevent your most precious ornaments from getting damaged is to pack them in egg cartons! Place ornaments inside the carton, tape it shut, and wrap a rubber band around it to keep it from opening during transport. Wrap the cartons carefully with bubble wrap or packing paper, place in a sturdy box, and label the box properly by marking it fragile. If you have larger ornaments, wrap them individually in bubble wrap or packing paper and place in a separate box, or purchase an ornament organizer.

Keep all Holiday Décor in Separate Boxes

To prevent your décor from getting lost in the move it is important to pack all holiday décor in separate boxes, so they are easy to find on move day. We suggest using the same color waterproof totes for all décor, or properly labeled boxes with a holiday symbol drawn on it like a candy cane, Christmas tree, etc. to help you quickly identify that it is part of your holiday décor.
