Have Packing Supplies on Hand
Before your portable storage container arrives, it is important to have to proper packing supplies to help you pack items, and wrap/move furniture properly. All these items can be rented or purchased at your local hardware store. If you are using Fry-Wagner’s portable storage container, packing supplies such as boxes, tape, packing paper, etc. are available for purchase. Some common supplies you will need are:
- Boxes
- Packing Tape
- Packing Paper
- Moving Pads
- Stretch Wrap
- Loading Straps
- Dollies
Wrap all Furniture
It is important that all furniture you are moving into your portable storage container be protected. This will prevent any damage during the move. Wrap your furniture with moving pads, and be sure to cover the piece in its entirety. Secure the moving pads with packing tape, as seen below.
Label Boxes
Before you move all your boxes into the container, label every box so you know exactly what is inside them when you start unloading the container.
Load the Heavy Items First
Move all the heavier items such as furniture, appliances, large televisions, etc. into the container first. This will prevent boxes from getting smashed during transport if your container will be stored at a facility. Stand couches, tables, chairs, etc. on an end to provide more floor space for other items.
Pack Everything Tight
The most important thing to remember when packing a portable storage container is that you want your items to have as little room as possible to move around. Stack boxes strategically so that they fit together like puzzle pieces, leaving little space between boxes for movement.
Secure with Loading Straps
You will find hooks all throughout your portable storage container. These hooks are used to help secure your items using loading straps. Hook up your loading straps from one side of the container to the other and tighten the strap down. This will prevent items from sliding around during transport.
It is important that all your valuable household items are safe and secure in your portable storage container. Packing strategically will make the move process feel more organizes and less chaotic.
