One of the most dreaded parts of the entire move process is unpacking. Unpacking can be stressful because you have to spend a great deal of time deciding where to place certain items, organizing your home, and getting rid of your boxes. The unpacking process can take up to two weeks to finish! However, we have put together a quick list of 5 tips to unpack quickly and efficiently, so you can spend more time enjoying your new home as soon as possible.

  1. Organize Boxes by Room:

One of the most important parts of the packing process is labeling your boxes. Be sure that all your boxes are properly labeled before your move. For example: a box with dishes and silverware should be marked “kitchen”, whereas a box filled with towels should be marked “bathroom.” Once you have determined what boxes should be placed in what room, stack and organize them accordingly, so you have enough space to freely move around and unpack.

  1. Recruit People to Help:

If you have friends or family that are willing to help you unpack, the process will go much faster. The more hands on deck, means the less amount of time it will take to get everything unboxed. Assign a room to each individual, so they can focus on one task at a time. Offer to buy them lunch or dinner to thank them for all their help.

  1. Break Down Boxes as You Go:

Once a box is completely emptied, be sure to remove the tape and break down the box. Designate a certain spot in the house to pile up all the empty boxes. Boxes are bulky and tend to get in the way during the unpacking process, so breaking them down as you go will keep the clutter and your stress level at bay.

  1. Focus on the Unpacking Process:

When unpacking, it is easy to get caught up in organizing and decorating your new home. It is best to organize and decorate after everything has been unpacked. For example, you may spend an hour trying to hang a painting perfectly straight, while all of your kitchen boxes have yet to be unpacked. Focusing on unpacking and taking every item out of boxes will make the process go a lot faster and keep you from getting distracted.
