Planning a move takes a lot of time, preparation, and organization. If using professional movers, the move process can seem a bit confusing if you have never used a moving company before. At Fry-Wagner Moving & Storage, we strive to make moving as easy as possible for our customers, which is why we have put together a quick list of things to expect throughout your move. These tips will help you better understand some of the more complicated parts of planning a move, so you are well prepared.
Do Not Move on Closing Day: Moving takes a good deal of coordination from every party involved. It is a common misconception that moving on the same day as closing will be easier for everyone; however, this can cause more of an issue than a solution. Professional movers will need adequate time to carefully pack, protect, and move your belongings, and not only is it required to have someone at least 18 years old on-site, it is a good idea to be present for the entire move day to oversee the process and answer any questions that the movers might have regarding your items. Closing can often take several hours and unforeseen issues may arise, so it is best to schedule your move date a day or two before/after closing to avoid overlapping schedules.
Your Estimate is Subject to Change: At the beginning of the move process, you will meet with an estimator who will survey your home and generate an estimate on how much your move will cost. What many customers find hard to understand when moving is that an estimate is just an approximation. The purpose of the estimate is to give an idea of how much the move is going to cost. Once the move is complete, the hours of service, for local moving, or weight of your shipment, for long distance moving, will be calculated to determine the final cost. However, it is important to note that when moving long-distance with Fry-Wagner, you will never have to pay more than the estimated amount because the quote is on a not to exceed basis.
Expect the Unexpected: Moving can often be unpredictable; no matter how much time you take to plan the process perfectly. That is why it is important to expect the unexpected. This includes being in need of extra boxes, removing items from your estimate, changing your move date, or any damage to items. Fry-Wagner encourages our customers to get full value protection on their goods during the move to ensure that if damage were to occur, the value of your items would be fully refunded to you. Fry-Wagner strives to provide an excellent quality of service, but there is always a chance that an accident could happen. Full value protection covers you when the unexpected occurs.
Long Distance Moves will have a Delivery Window: When planning your move-in day, be prepared that your moving company won’t be able to give you a specific date and time of arrival. Every long distance move is given a delivery window of 2 to 18 days, depending on the weight of your shipment and the distance of your move. Once your driver’s schedule is planned, your move coordinator will be able to provide you with a narrower delivery window of a few days, and it is important to make sure that you are available every day within that delivery window to accept your goods at your destination. If you have specific travel plans or needs for delivery, please discuss these requests with your move coordinator in the very early stages of your move.
